Welcome to the site! We are Into The Light, a roleplay forum loosely based on Legend of Zelda.
This is more of an archive these days. Thank you for all of the adventures we had, and good luck as you move on to your next ones!
The site is going through some big changes right now, so expect to see some different stuff soon! You may notice that some of the threads are missing. If they're roleplay threads, you can find them in the Archive, and feel free to continue them. If they're character applications, they'll be in the Character Applications board. When we're doen with the update, just change them to fit the new site/app (not too different) and we'll be happy to accept them again.
"I said no! I am not going to get onto your makeshift stage and sing!"
"But you've got your music right in your book bag! Pretty please?"
"Oh, alright," Zel finally relented his decision. "But if anyone even chuckles I'm leaving."
"Go ahead," the older kid smiled; this kid's name was Kai, and he was in Zel's high school music class. Unfortunately, this meant that he knew just how perfect Zel's voice was for singing.
He got up on stage and announced that Zel would be singing a few songs as said silverette dug through his book bag, finally finding his music notes. He had multiple copies of each song he had written, and he passed them out to the band. The band gave him dubious looks, but they read over the sheets and grinned at how well-written they were, especially for a 16-year-old junior who had skipped multiple grades and was going to be going straight to college next year.
See, what made the band have dubious looks was the fact that Zel had multiple personalities. It was hard to know what personality had written the songs. The band took their places, and Zel told the audience the name of the song.
"This song is called Tailor Shop in Hyrule, and it's a Seven Deadly Sins song. The sin is Envy."
And then he began his song.
"Now, let's make dresses."
"On a corner of Hyrule is a young person
Who runs a dress shop.
With beauty and a generous heart,
She is a popular person in the neighborhood."
"What causes her sadness is
The constant cheating of her love.
'Although he has a woman like me,
He never comes home.'"
"But I must persevere with my fashion line.
I hold my scissors in one hand.
The scissors are a keepsake of my teacher.
If you enchant them, they'll cut even better."
As he spoke the second line of the second verse, he whipped a pair of scissors into his hand from seemingly nowhere. As the verse ended, he made them vanish again. The music was light but almost sorrowful. Most of the audience was wondering why.
"Today the town is the same as always.
It is indeed as calm and peaceful as everyday is.
I saw the teenager on Main Street.
Who is the girl standing next to him?"
"The red dress suits her well.
He seems quite happy with the beautiful girl.
I couldn't bear their happiness walking together.
I left immediately."
"But I must persevere with my fashion line.
I hold my scissors in one hand."
Again, he flashed his scissors out of nowhere. He suddenly began to cry, but it was obviously fake. Zel knew how to fake tears.
"While my cheeks become wet with tears,
I work hard mending the stitches on the dress."
Just as quickly as he'd started crying, it stopped and he moved on to the next verse, waiting patiently as the song demanded. he took on a slightly annoyed expression as he began to sing again.
"Castle Town has an uneasy atmosphere today for some reason.
It seems that some sort of crime has broken out.
I saw the teenager in front of the bridge.
Who is the girl next to him?"
"He was in a depressed state.
He was leaning next to a girl with messy hair.
The green sash really suits her.
Ah, I guess that kind of person meets your standards."
He took on an almost apologetic expression with a matching smile.
"But I must persevere with my fashion line.
I hold my scissors in one hand.
While my red eyes are swelling,
I work hard on repairing the sash."
Every time, the scissors flashed into his hand and disappeared when the verse mentioned them.
"Discord has suddenly come to Castle Town.
It seems that a crime has happened again.
I saw the teenager at the market.
Who is the girl next to him?"
"For a very young girl
He is buying a golden tiara.
What in Hyrule does he think he's doing?
He really has no standards."
"But I must persevere with my fashion line.
I hold my scissors in one hand.
I wonder; where my scissors always this color?
I work hard today as well."
Indeed, the scissors had changed color. They had gone from a sparkling silver to a strange blood-red color. They did not disappear from sight this time around. His voice became deadly quiet.
"I've finally reached my vacation.
If you will not come home to me,
Then I will go to you."
He did not dress up in the clothes that he had stated, but a sparkling image was already clear in the audience's minds of what Envy was wearing.
"The red dress.
The green sash.
The gold tiara
I put in my hair."
"Have I become a woman
of your stature?
Well, what do you think?
Don't I look marvelous?"
Zel now had a carefree smile on his face, and blood-red paint was spattered across his clothes. When that had happened, it was impossible to tell.
"Today the whole town is in chaos.
This time a teenage male was killed.
It seems someone has murdered
An entire family of four!"
"At any rate, he was acting so cruel.
'How do you do? Good afternoon.' Huh?
It was as though it was unrequited.
It was as though it was unrequited."
"But I must persevere with my fashion line.
I hold my scissors in one hand."
He held his scissors up for the audience to see.
"The scissors have been stained red.
If you enchant them, they'll cut even better."
The band did the ending of it, and then Kai hopped up on stage while the audience cheered. Someone began chanted 'Encore!' and it was soon picked up by the rest of the party goers.
"Dude, you have more of those, right?"
Startled, Zel muttered, "Y-yeah, one page over from this song. But then I have to get the other three from my book bag; the song for Wrath isn't finished yet...."
"Then give the audience what they want and sing the other song!"
"A-Alright... just don't pester me again, Kai." The tone was playful. He instructed the band to flip the page and play the song after he gave them a sign to do so.
"This song is called Evil Food Eater Wolf, and it's the song of Gluttony. AKA Wolf's fat ass." A few laughs were emitted by Zel's joke; he liked to joke around that Wolf was a fat ass.
The song began.
"Now eat, and don't leave even one seed behind."
"On a farm of corruption, with rotten apples hanging in the trees,
Today, the last picking has been commenced.
There are many dishes that will give anyone goosebumps
and furthermore one person who will eat them all with a smile."
"The name of that person is Wolf
Who in his past had tasted all the apples in Hyrule.
But in the end he was seeking after
The ultimate repulsive food."
Two different voices sprung from Zel's throat; he was known for being able to have two personalities speak at once in their own unique voices. The personalities were Zel and Kitten, who were usually at odds with each other.
"Respect and feed
The world's greatest person, Wolf!
All of the food in Hyrule
Exists only for you to enjoy!"
He switched back to just Wolf.
"Eat away everything in Hyrule!
There is never enough in my stomach.
My poison apple shining with pale red light
Is most fitting to be my main dish's spice~"
"Suck and chew down to the fibers of the cores!
If you're still hungry, feel free to bite into the plates.
As my supreme bliss runs down from the tip of my tongue,
The supper shall continue!"
Wolf had an uncharacteristically happy smile on his face; or was it hunger?
"Upon entering this year,
His servant started asking him,
'Would it be okay if I took a break?'
All of them are just too useless in the end!"
Kitten and Zel came back into the song. However, in Zel's voice was a hint of fear. It was obvious which servant had been asking for a break.
"Respect and feed
the greatest person, Wolf!
We must invite all of his friends
To the fitting dinners!"
Wolf took a crazed expression as he sang once more.
"Eat away everything in Hyrule!
Today's menu is very special.
The hair shining with pale red light
Is most fitting for my appetizer's salad~"
"Suck and chew to the fibers of the cores!
If you're still hungry, feel free to get seconds.
Ah, sugarcube, over there,
I wonder how you would taste..."
"Before he knows it, the ranch becomes an empty shell,
With nothing inside and no one around.
Despite that, the person kept looking for
The ultimate repulsive food."
"Eat away everything in Hyrule!
Upon noticing his own right hand,
The person whispered eerily to themselves,
'Look! There's still something I can eat!'"
"Wolf's very last repulsive food
Was his own body.
The only person who has tasted the body that has eaten all
Is no longer alive in Hyrule."
Once more, the crowd roared; Zel shyly smiled and hopped down from the stage to rummage through his book bag for the rest of the songs. Gred, Sloth, and Lust were still there, after all. Kai left him alone. The only thing that didn't occur to Zel was the fact that perhaps someone would try to approach him.
Even though many of the guests at the party were having fun, there was one who was definitely not. A senior stood by one of the walls, quietly observing with a nervous and almost cornered look on his face. This was not his idea of fun by far. There were way too many people for his comfort, most of whom he didn't even know or who had never bothered to say a kind word about him. Out of all of these people, there was probably only a handful who he had ever talked to. And yet Caila, his very sociable younger sister, had dragged him to the mid-year winter break party, knowing all of that before she had even brought it up. After three of years, the first time going on his own, he'd almost gotten used to it. Usually he'd stick by her side and pretend he was watching over her.
That had been the excuse this time, until five minutes in when her friends had whisked her off and he had been left alone. That had been twenty minutes ago, and he hadn't even moved since then. His eyes were moving though, darting across the dance floor and over to the refreshments bar, where he saw Caila sipping some punch and laughing with her friends. Briefly he thought about joining her, but there were a lot of people between them. It probably wasn't worth it. Even though he hated to admit it, what kind of social butterfly wanted their awkward dorky big brother following them around a high school party?
Caila's excuse for the evening was that he needed to talk to people, which he was not doing. No way. He was just fine with standing here the entire night until the party ended or he could slip away. Maybe he'd even walk home. Just leave a note on the car and go. It was only about ten miles. So what if he 'needed to talk to people'? He was just fine on his own, and it wasn't like anyone here would be willing to talk. He'd heard the rumors spread around about him, and most of the other students would just as well prefer to give him a wide berth.
There was music playing, some popular tune that Caila liked. He wasn't too interested in it. The tune might be catchy, but the lyrics were trashy and tasteless and the singers weren't exactly great. It was just another boring song. "Sorry." he apologized as someone brushed past, giving him a withering look as they continued on. He winced and looked away, clearly uncomfortable. Why hadn't he left already, or better yet, refused to go? Caila. He loved his sister, but sometimes he wished she would just leave his social life the hell alone.
Huh. This didn't sound like trashy radio music anymore. He couldn't really understand the lyrics, but the singing was really good. Where was it coming from? His eyes, light brown, scanned the crowd until he found the source. It looked like a band was playing on the stage. The singer, the one who drew his eyes, seemed younger than him, maybe younger than Caila. Caiden didn't know him either way. It seemed like the crowd was impressed though, even considering the lyrics. Maybe that was part of what drew him. Yes, they were strange and kind of creepy, but at least they were different. The silver haired singer was good too, really good, and he felt himself walking towards the source of the sound.
He stopped a couple of yards from the stage and leaned against the wall, watching the kid with interest. The first song was over, but the crowd wanted more, and it seemed like they would get their wish. He had to smile a little at the name of the song. How strange. The band started up again, and Caiden listened as they went through another song, this time centered around gluttony. Even considering the topic, he felt himself relax a little. Maybe it was the music that did that? It seemed like the kid who was singing had written the songs, and that was pretty cool in his eyes. Maybe he would say something to him when he got the chance.
He actually wasn't planning on doing it. However, when the boy stepped off of the stage, his feet seemed to move of their own accord, and he didn't even try to stop them. Stopping next to the boy, who was looking through a backpack, he opened his mouth and started speaking in the quiet voice he usually used when talking to people he didn't know. "Umm, hi. I really liked your music. You're really good. Is there a reason why you picked some of the Seven Deadly Sins?" Oh crap, he said too much. Now he must sound like a stalker. Well, there went that possible friendship. No wonder Caila thought he needed a push; more like a shove, he thought.
Plays: Ayri, Caiden, Seiji, Caila, Saia, Pyro, Jonathan
Avatar is not mine. I just think it's awesome.
Startled by the voice, Zel shot up and away, a good foot away from where he had last been standing. Wide, frightened dark grey-blue eyes searched the other's face from any kind of malice, but found none. This was, after all, how he reacted after getting scared, plus the fact that the silverette did not know this guy. He seemed to be a senior. He relaxed slightly, and spoke in a shy, nearly silent voice.
"O-Oh! Y-You startled me, I wasn't expecting anyone to talk to me... Um, well, I chose the Seven Deadly Sins because, well, they're interesting. And I-I f-felt like writing about them... I-I think I-I've seen you around school before, y-you're C-Caiden, aren't you? I-I'm Zel, n-nice to meet you!" Zel held out his hand shyly, smiling nervously now.
After their little exchange, Zel regained a little bit of confidence. "H-Hey, w-we should talk after I'm done singing! O-Of course, if that's alright with you. I gotta get on the stage now, but I'll talk to you soon!" Zel hopped up on stage with one last little wave to the brown-haired boy who had approached him. he regained all of his confidence as soon as he was on stage.
"Right, here's the sheets for Sloth. Think you can do it?" The band leader looked over the sheet, grinned, and nodded.
"Alright, alright, people, settle down! Now, I've got the song of Sloth here for you. The song's title is 'Gift From the Healer Who Brought Sleep'."
And so the song began. Squirrel was singing this time, his timid voice giving a light tone to the song's lyrics.
"Please, sleep with this gift of mine. You can sleep well with this gift of mine. Yes, I am the teenager who brings your medicine, Just so that you can get better soon."
"Although I met you when you were injured, I nevertheless loved you. You're a good-for-nothing bunny who doesn't want me, But I actually loved you from long ago."
"You are merely after the help of a caretaker, And even that's fine by me. You've forgotten how I saved you when you were sick, And that's fine, too, as long as I get to nurse you."
"I can no longer bear to see you hurt, So Zecora gave me a really good medicine. It will give you sweet dreams and mend your injuries It's a present from me to you."
"Please, sleep with this gift of mine. You can sleep well with this gift of mine. Yes, I am the teenager who brings your medicine, Just so that you can get well soon..."
"Everyone has some kind of ailment; My friends, the animals, and everyone in town. For the sake of everyone who's sick, I will make more medicine as a gift to them."
"As soon as you've plunged into your dreams, You can forget your ailment or injury. In your bed, just like a small child, Close your eyes, and let go of everything..."
"Yay!"
"Everyone, after receiving my gift, Has become happy: every single one. I, the only one not resting, in their stead, Have obtained cures for all disease."
"Please, sleep with this gift of mine. You can sleep well with this gift of mine. Yes, I am the teenager who brings your medicine, A teenager seeking hope...."
Squirrel's soft voice suddenly became darker, with a raw edge to it.
"In those days when I was treated Like a doormat or a tree, I was broken a long time ago, So I want to destroy all."
He took on a chilling smile, and focused a strange stare on the audience.
"It's a very powerful medicine. Its effect will stay in you forever. Now it is finally time for me to be cured. I'll now change from Doctor to Patient...."
And so, with that last verse, it became clear what the medicine was; death serum. Sloth had killed everyone; they were not resting. Kai hopped up on stage and surprised Zel with a hug. He laughed quietly while the audience cheered before pulling away from Kai.
"No autographs," he laughed, roughly pushing Kai off the stage, who did a backflip and landed on his feet. Zel was mildly disappointed by that. He flipped through his music sheets looking for Lust. Finding it, he passed it out to the band.
"This isn't too hard to play, right?" The band leader nodded, looking rather prideful at being the only band to have played Zel's strange songs.
"Okay, okay. So I pushed Kai off the stage, no need to talk about it. So, this song is the song of Lust and it's called 'Kitten's Madness'. Be warned, I'm bringing my inanimate objects on stage."
Hopping off the stage on the opposite side of where Dash was, he grabbed his 'inanimate' objects. They moved at Zel's will from a little magic left over from his witch friend, Nika. She had, sadly, passed away a few years ago, but he liked to remember her through the small objects. First there was Sir Lintsalot, a dust bunny. Then Madame LaFlour, a bag of flour; Rocky, a pile of rocks; and Mr. Turnip, a bucket of turnips.
It had always only been a rumor that the objects moved, spread by someone who had accidentally witnessed it. The objects began to move of their own accord.
Before the song started, Zel's hair spikes drooped slightly before popping back immediately. With a maniacal grin on his face, he began his song.
"A party for Gummy has started again today. You have smiles on your faces.... I'll make you my new friends!"
"I got this power from a contract I made with Discord." All people who look at me will continue to laugh!"
The objects suddenly spoke up; Kitten maintained his maniacal grin.
"He gained the power to party forever."
"The person lives alone in the basement of the bakery."
"He brings in the cakes he likes one after another."
"And the party never ends!"
Then Kitten spoke again.
"The taste of the icing hid the poison, The pleasure of the cake being cut. The sugar and spice which blend together Will change into silver drops."
"By throwing streamers and partying,"
Zel's spikes suddenly drooped as he lost his grin.
"We can never go back to reality."
His spikes suddenly dropped completely, leaving his hair flat.
"I have burned the memories and abandoned the me of the past. Everyone would mock and laugh at me..."
Kitten's face grew angry suddenly.
"I want to forget those faces."
His face grew happy again and the spikes reappeared slightly.
"I hold the blonde older teen beside me and he ruffles my hair."
Then, his hair became flat once more, his face angry.
"He is my friend who had also made fun of me long ago."
The objects kicked back in. They had continued to shuffle around his feet during the song.
"One day, the cakes from upstairs..."
"...one after another, would be taken, unnoticed."
"People were puzzled by..."
"...the loss of their confections."
Kitten began to look anxious.
"In darkness the color of icing"
He suddenly look slightly happy again, though the spikes did not return.
"The infinite partying never ends."
And then his hair popped back into spikes, but he had a thoughtful - an almost angry - look on his face.
"Understanding the fantasy, I'm no longer what makes a person."
"Disobeying Din with chaos, This is exactly the night of fun I had wished for."
Kitten's maniacal grin returned; his hair fluffed out again with the spikes.
A tumbleweed blew onto stage; Kitten looked rather happy to see it.
"Another party guest has arrived today. Come hither and dance to the sound of Gummy's heart!"
Twirling happily with the tumbleweed, Kitten sang the next few lyrics in a happy tone. He failed to notice that Dash had vanished.
"I got up and danced, you who in that moment smiled, And with a sudden sharp pain, my chest is dyed in blood."
Kitten staggered backwards, wincing in mock pain. His chest was dyed in the same blood-red paint from earlier, but it looked rather real this time.
The person who had thrown off the tumbleweed costume spoke.
"I was searching for you all this time. I discovered your whereabouts; the bakery where Discord lives. Wearing a disguise, I got close to the partier And kicked him in the chest."
The person was Dash. Kitten spoke again, collapsed on the floor with his maniacal grin still intact.
"By sticking it onto the bottom of your shoes, the poison was hidden. I collapsed in this spot. The sugar and spice which blend together Will change into silver drops."
The paint on his shirt magically changed to silver. Kitten's eyes widened as the objects slowly stopped moving and disappeared offstage.
"The spell was broken, All the partiers returned to normal and disappeared."
Kitten staggered up, stumbling after Dash who had started to walk to edge of the stage.
"I watch it all in a mere flash Until finally they had left the basement."
"Dashie, wait!"
Dash stopped and half turned.
"I haven't told you happy birthday yet!"
The song ended there. Zel relaxed his stance and grinned. Dash tackled his brother to the floor of the stage with a hug. He awkwardly ruffled Dash's hair.
"I wouldn't forget your birthday, Dashie," Zel murmured. Finally, Dash let Zel up. Smiling shyly, he jumped down from the stage again and began to rummage through his book bag once more for the song of Greed. He'd be done soon, and then he could talk to that boy...
Darn it. It was obvious from the frightened look that the kid gave him that he had scared the kid. Caiden couldn't help but feel guilty at that. He hadn't been trying to scare the kid for Din's sake, the Goddesses knew that he was nervous enough himself. The brunet opened his mouth to apologize, but closed it again when the singer relaxed, a nervous smile on the other boy's face. Oh. Maybe he didn't mind too much. The nervous and shy smile appeared on his own face as well, his expression turning sheepish. "Sorry for scaring you. It's nice to hear someone singing something different for once, and well too." So this was Zel. He'd heard a little bit about the boy who looked years younger than him but was actually really close to his grade level. A light blush appeared on his face when he heard his name spoken. "Y-yes, I'm Caiden. It's nice to meet you too."
He reached forward to shake the silveret's hand, and his blush grew just a little bit more in the dimmer light as their skin touched and what felt like a small electric shock ran up his arm. What in the world? That was different. After shaking Zel's hand, he dropped his own to his side, still wondering what had just happened.
Of course Zel had to get back. Caiden was a little disappointed that he had to leave so soon, but he smiled wider at the offer to meet again after his possible new friend was done singing. "Sure. I'll be here. Good luck!" He returned the wave, then went back to standing over by the wall, a smile still on his face and his eyes back on Zel with interest. What would this sng be about? Something crazy more than likely. This one was about Sloth it seemed. Like the other two, it told a story with a creepy ending. But again, he almost kind of liked it. It was unique, certainly. Maybe that was what drew him, that or Zel's voice, melodic and constantly changing. Maybe the two would be friends? Caila would no doubt ask if he'd made any friends at the party. To her, maybe scaring and then briefly talking with a guy meant a friendship. He wouldn't put it past her. But he hoped they would be friends. It would be nice to have a friend.
The song ended, and after shoving a kid whose name Caiden could only guess at offstage, the Zel began another one. Lust, huh? He wondered what this one would be about, and why Zel kept talking about different people who were singing when it was just him. ...Wait, didn't he have multiple personalities? It seemed so. Why was the kid bringing inanimate objects on stage? That was certainly different. Oh Nayru, were those things moving?
Yes, yes they were. Caiden didn't really pay much attention to them; his gaze was fixed mainly on the silver haired singer. At one point in the song, he sucked in a sharp worried breath as what looked like blood appeared on Zel's shirt. Had he just seriously gotten stabbed? For the rest of the song, Cai didn't even blink very much, and stared at Zel with a worried expression. How was he still performing in that condition?
At the last line, he finally realized it was a joke, and grinned broadly at the birthday wish. He watched as the kid and the blue-haired boy who had been onstage with him hugged. They were obviously close, and 'Dashie' seemed to care about Zel a lot. Something twinged in him, and he twitched. That was weird. Was he jealous? But it was perfectly fine with him if Zel had other friends. Maybe he was jealous because his only friend was his sister. Speaking of his sister...
"Hey bro!" came a voice at his shoulder, and he turned and looked into bright blue eyes. Caila. "How are you doing so far?"
"Good, I guess." he replied softly, "I think I accidentally scared the singer when I tried to congratulate him, but I did apologize afterwards. And now I think we're friends. He seems nice, and he said he'd try to talk with me after he's done..."
"You scared someone? Really? I don't believe it. You wouldn't hurt a fly. And you made a friend! Good for you!" She leaned over and hugged him. "I'm proud of you, Caiden. If you need anything, come find me. Love you bro." Then Caila was gone as if she had never appeared. Caiden sighed, and turned his gaze back to the stage. Zel was back to sorting through his backpack, and Caiden let out a loud cheer that blended in well with the rest of the crowd. More songs, cool! He was already looking forward to their next meeting...
Zel was slightly disappointed that Caiden did not approach him again, but he was so hyped up for Greed that he wasn't really paying attention. After a few seconds of rummaging, he suddenly stopped and just stared. Dash noticed and began to talk to him.
"Zel. Zel, Zel, your spacing out again, Zel." After a gentle push, Zel blinked and fell over. Dash rolled his eyes and pulled a cookie out of Zel's book bag and shoved it into Zel's mouth. "Cookie."
Zel attempted to speak, but Dash silenced him by repeating what he said. The silverette stared for a heartbeat before devouring the cookie. Dash took this chance to steal something out of Zel's bag.
"Thanks, Dash. I needed a sugar rush." He was obviously being sarcastic, and Dash grinned. Zel looked into his bag and rummaged for a bit, then stopped.
"Dash, did you take my music sheets for Greed?"
"I am your music sheets."
"Very funny, hand them over before I kick you in the back of the knees and forcefully take them from you."
Dash paled slightly and handed over the music sheets without a word.
"Oh, yeah, and Dashie? Don't accept anything Allyson offers you, she spiked everything."
Leaving a very confused Dash, Zel climbed back onto the stage and handed the Greed music sheets to the band. This one was certainly going to be interesting.
"Okay, one more song tonight." At the crowd's disappointment, Zel said, "Hey, hey! Pride's too long and Wrath isn't done yet, sheesh. This song is the song of Greed. It's called Judgement of Corruption. Let's start the song!"
"The judiciary system is so tainted here,
That a defendant's charges are based
Solely on his wealth.
I, the Master of the Court, seek not justice but money."
"Even if it's the most atrocious scoundrel,
As long as he pays up,
I will gladly spare him.
After all, money makes the mare go round."
"I couldn't care less about
Their age, gender, looks, or ethnicity.
What's important is whether or not
They have enough money.
That's all that matters."
"Your life is in my hands.
If you wish to be spared,
Then cough up the coins!"
"That's right,
Your charges are at my discretion,
At the mercy of my
Judgement of Corruption."
"If you truly wish to be saved from
The swamp of false charges,
Then hand over more of that money!"
Zel's pupils diluted slightly. Allyson and Dash noticed with a worried glance shared between them.
"I need money to cure my daughter's handicapped legs.
Once I have assembled seven containers
Of deadly sins, my wish will
Surely be granted."
"At today's court, too,
Where misgivings unfold,
The evildoers snicker
While the innocent weep."
"That's right,
Your charges are at my discretion,
At the mercy of my
Judgement of Corruption."
"In order for my own long cherished wish
To come true,
I must continue wielding
My gavel of injustice."
"A vicious general who slaughtered
Countless innocent people
Should of course be sentenced
To death."
"However, I was bribed
Into claiming him innocent.
The people's outrage brought an uprising,
That general was killed anyway,
And his body left in the wilderness to rot."
"The brunt of the rage, however, is directed at me.
The people set my house on fire.
Oh, my beloved 'daughter',
As long as we're together, there's nothing to fear."
As he spoke, he allowed a small flame to flicker in his hand from a hidden metal piece on the palm of his hand sparking.
"In the remains of my burned-down house,
You'll probably find
The lonely corpses of
A man and his daughter."
He flicked the flame off with a shake of his hand. Making the audience believe the song was finished, he crouched at the edge of the stage, rummaging through his bag. Finally, he found what he was looking for; a gavel. Where he'd gotten it, it was unknown. As the clamor began to rise, Zel stood up and dropped the gavel, making a loud, echoing, light 'thud'. The clamor stopped instantly. He picked up his gavel and continued the song.
"When I have come back to my senses,
I find myself alone at the gate
To the netherworld."
"Am I going to Heaven or Hell?
The one deciding that is the
Master of the Hellish Yard."
"Even if it's the most atrocious scoundrel,
As long as he pays up,
I will gladly spare him.
After all, money makes the mare go round, even in Hell."
"Smiling, I whisper into the master's ear...
'I'll never hand over my money to the likes of you.'
Immediately, my body is plunged through the gate,
And falls towards the bottom of the abyss."
Zel's voice took on an echoing quality, as though he was actually falling. His pupils were now half-way diluted.
"That's right,
Your charges are at my discretion,
At the mercy of my
Judgement of Corruption."
"Therefore, I will not allow anyone to judge me."
The dilated gaze glared over the audience at a group of kids who had always made fun of Zel for his multiple personalities. They paled slightly.
"I will not stand for a bully."
His glare did not last more than a heartbeat. He took on a crazy grin again, this time more actual craziness than anger or hunger.
"That's right,
Sometime in the future, I will once again
Gather the fragments of the deadly sins
Into my hands."
"By that time, Hell will have
Probably become a Utopia
For my daughter and I."
The diluted pupils and crazed expression disappeared. Sighing in relief as he was finished on stage, Zel hopped off the stage. Almost immediately he was captured by a girl with long blonde hair and sparkling blue eyes. Groaning, he allowed himself to be carried over to where Allyson and her 'gang' was. They often fussed over him and babied him, but Zel didn't mind much. Much.
"Aww, he's so adorable!"
"His hair is even softer than it was earlier today!"
"He looked so cute on stage!"
Allyson gave him some ice cream and assured him it wasn't spiked. However, Zel declined it politely and found a way to escape form the girls, making Kai the center of their attention. Zel stood near his backpack now, his music sheets put away probably by his brother. He waited for Caiden to come back, or not. Maybe Caiden didn't want to talk anymore. That was fine with him, really. Whatever made his new friend happy made him happy. Though, Zel was still recovering from a long depression that ended three years ago, surely being ignored wouldn't be good for his mental health. Good for him or not, Zel was actually kind of obsessing over this kid he met. But he made sure to keep aware so that he wouldn't space out again...
Both siblings thoroughly enjoyed the song, and wished Zel would sing more when it was over. But that had been his last song of the night. They both knew that.
During the song, Caila had joined some of her friends, Allyson and a few other girls. When Ally kidnapped the singer from the stage after the song and brought him over, she had to admit that he was adorable. So Caiden had scared him? Hmm, he looked like he and Caiden could be good friends. Possibly even more. Caiden had never been very excited about just making a friend before... She didn't follow Zel when he left, not paying attention to Kai but wanting to give the boys some privacy. Hopefully her brother would actually go over and talk to him now.
And Caiden did. When Zel had moved back over to stand by his backpack, Caiden moved through the crowd again and quietly moved to stand next to him. Not really sure what to say and feeling quite shy around this possible new friend, he said "Hi again. You sang really well. I have to admit, you had me a little worried when you got the red paint all over yourself. Good special effects though." He smiled shyly but warmly, still standing a few feet from the singer so he wouldn't make Zel uncomfortable.

Zel looked over at Caiden, grinning. "Thanks. Sorry to worry you, but I've actually had that paint on me all day. It only shows under special lighting." He grinned wider and tilted his shirt to make it appear. "See? I kinda wandered into the art room by accident today and you know Mr. Walken... Loves to throw paint at people who wander in by accident. At least, he does that to me."
Zel stepped closer to Caiden. "Say, what's your favorite type of music? I bet it's not the same as mine." The silverette loved to make new friends, and he liked to ask questions. The feather in his hair changed to a bright pink color, while his eyes changed color to a bright, happy green.

Caiden laughed quietly at Zel's story, his smile growing wider and a little more comfortable. Even though they were surrounded by people, he was starting to relax, almost forgetting about the others entirely. "I've only had it happen to me once, but it took ages to get all of the green out of my hair. I haven't really gone near there since."
He blinked at the music question, then blushed slightly. "Well, umm, mostly slow stuff. Stuff with meaning. Wow, I'm not good at explaining things. Did that make sense at all? Fast music doesn't pull me in as much. What about you? What kinds do you like?"

Zel blinked in surprise. "I love songs that have meaning. Like those really old bands like the Beatles and stuff. And Owl City and other bands. I mostly like whatever kind of music pulls at my nerves the most. Like, if something terrible happened, I like the really depressing songs. If something great just happened, I like the happy songs. As long as there's meaning and emotion behind it."
He grinned widely. "I guess that's why I like to make music and sing. I can make songs have meaning." The green-eyed silverette shook his head. "What's your favorite band? Mine, personally, is Owl City."
Owl City was a great band. He'd covered most of their songs for them and he'd actually gotten a few thank-you's and even the newest album for free last year in the mail. Owl City really liked it when he covered their songs; they'd said so through email themselves. They said he had a great voice, the way he sang had so much emotion, and that they couldn't wait for his next cover.
He tried not to put most of his original songs on his YouTube channel, mostly because he didn't like people he didn't know in real life to know that he wrote music. He wasn't in a band yet.

Caiden nods at that. "Yeah, me too. I'm glad you think so too. Sure, catchy songs are... well, catchy. But it's the meaning that really makes it great. Hmm, Owl City? I don't think I've heard anything of their's... I'll go look them up when I get home. What's your favorite song by them?"
He looked thoughtful when Zel asked what his favorite band was. "Well, I don't really have one. I listen to a lot of things by different people." He almost added without thinking that Zel was his favorite singer at the moment, but he managed to stop that before it came out of his mouth. The thought did turn his cheeks slightly pink though, and his eavesdropping sister noticed that. Wow, Caila thought from where she stood a few paces away, her brother must really like this guy if he's blushing...

"My favorite song?" He had to think about that. He had an answer quickly. "Enchanted. I think that one's my favorite. They're all good, but that one can just..." Zel shrugs. "I can't describe it."
He listened to Caiden's answer. "A lot of different things by a lot of different people, huh? Then..." Zel pulls a piece of scratch paper covered in little drawings on music notes and writes down a few bands, including Owl City. "Here. You might like these bands. I put Owl City on there too just as a reminder."
The gods know he's constantly forgetting things. That was why he more often than not had a notebook with him to write down everything.

Caiden laughs again, this time softer and a little warmer. "I know the feeling. Thank you, I'll go check it out, Zel." Smiling wider, he takes the piece of paper from Zel's hand. "Thanks again. Now I just have to not lose the paper. I'll be sure to tell you what I thought of them." Without the paper, he might have forgotten. Then again, something told him that he'd remember everything about his talk with Zel for a long time.
He was completely at ease now, not even remembering that he was surrounded by people. Well, at least until someone walking by tripped and elbowed him in the back. He winced and moved away from the person, mostly going back into his shell. Caila saw the difference, and sighed. He was tense now, eyes flicking nervously to passing people. Soon enough they moved back to Zel, but he wasn't quite the same anymore.
Not wanting their conversation to end, however, he asked in a quieter voice, "So when did you start singing? You really are good at it... You should sing for parties more often. I wouldn't mind going if you did." His blush was probably a more noticeable now, but he hoped it wasn't. Gods, that would be embarrassing...

"Hmmm. I started singing around... 8? 9? Something like that. I used singing to help cope with what I was going through at the time." Zel laughs. "I'm normally at the parties, but I don't sing much because most people find my songs really unsettling. I also don't like it when people praise me too much. I just... don't like praise." Zel didn't notice Caiden's blush at all, his own cheeks tinted with pink.
Just then, his phone rang? "Hm?" He checks it, and pales. "It's my caretaker. I have to take this, sorry..."
He answered it and immediately flinched as Mrs. Cake started yelling into his ear. "IT IS TWO IN THE MORNING WHERE ARE YOU YOU ARE IN SO MUCH TROUBLE-"
"Hey, hey, calm down, Mrs. Cake! I'm pretty sure the people at the other end of the party heard you. I'm still at the high school party I told you I was going to. I'm talking with a new friend."
"YOUR CURFEW IS MIDNIGHT!" He winced in pain.
"You don't need to shout into the phone," Zel groans. "Alright, alright, I'll come home. You said I could stay out until dawn tonight, though."
"Well, I changed my mind! Come home!" And then she hung up.
Zel sighed in frustration. "Sometimes I hate Mrs. Cake. She wants me to come home, right now. Sorry, Caiden." He looked up at Caiden through big, sparkling, silver eyes. "BUt I'll see you later, don't worry! Here!" He shoves another piece of paper into Caiden's hand. "That's my phone number. Just text me later and I'll answer, I promise!"
And then he's running home, a dark blush on his face, but he's also very sure that tonight is the best night of his life.

Caiden was trying his hardest not to turn as red as a tomato, and almost missed what Zel said. Then his blush faded, his look turning from tense to soft and a little curious. What he'd been going through? What had Zel gone through when he was that young? Oh well, Caiden had only just met him. It really wasn't his place to ask.
When Zel said he didn't like praise, Caiden smiled. "You do deserve most of it. But I understand. I don't like being the center of attention either..."
Zel's phone catches him off guard with its ring and he jumps, staring at it blankly. Then he nods. Caretaker? Not parent? He tries not to listen to the conversation, but it's kind of hard not to hear with that woman's yelling. Wow, it was two in the morning? Usually at parties, he didn't last until midnight. Caila would probably take him home soon. The two had only brought one car, though he usually drove.
He smiles shyly over at Zel. "It's okay. I probably need to get home soon too. Hopefully I'll see you again soon." The blush returns slightly when Zel hands him his number. It's almost like... No, they're not dating. Just friends swapping numbers.
With that, Zel is running off and he's just standing there, watching his new friend go and clutching the scraps of paper he's been given as tightly as he can. Wow.
Soon after that, Caila takes him home. Realizing how tired he was, he goes to bed soon afterwards. But he can't fall asleep. Instead he keeps glancing at his phone sitting on his nightstand. Zel will likely be asleep, he knows. Still, he can't fall asleep. Finally he picks it up with a sigh, and finds the newest contact that he'd put in only an hour before. Picking his words carefully, he types Hello again. It was nice to meet you. I still need to listen to those bands. Want to meet again sometime soon? -Caiden.
Then, biting his lip, he hits send. He's not really expecting an answer, but waits anyway.

Zel got home quickly, being the fastest runner in the entire neighborhood. There, he got chewed out by Mrs. Cake for staying out so late. And yet he somehow managed to twist the situation around so that he went off to bed with an entire cake.
He was sitting there, just eating it and staring blankly out the window when he got a text message. He readit and smiled, quickly typing out an answer. How soon is soon? -Zel
He finished off the cake quickly and, making sure to lock his door like he always did before he went to sleep, he climbed out the window and went roof-running. He often did this at night, so no one was really surprised. He knew that Caiden lived with Kai (or at least, he hoped; Kai said that a brown-haired guy lived with him but Kai'd never given a name).
Zel scrambled around the edge of the house and found that he was right; Caiden did live with Kai. he settled down on the windowsill and waited for Caiden to text him back or notice him. Though, noticing him was unlikely. It was night, there was no moonlight to shine on his hair, and he was as silent as an owl in flight.
